This is the more immersive version of Scivi’s Central Vietnam program. Hoi An and Hue provide two different heritage settings, while two nights in a community base give students time to understand practical systems such as food waste, composting, soil, farming, restoration and local environmental work. It is the strongest short route for schools seeking IB CAS or ESS, AP Environmental Science, and Cambridge Geography, Environmental Management or Global Perspectives.
The village stay is integrated into the route rather than sold as a separate retreat. Cam Phu, Cam Kim or another confirmed Hoi An-area community setting may be used according to host capacity, safety and the activities available for the travel dates.

The question guides selected field tasks and reflection. It does not turn every activity into a lesson or remove the enjoyment of travel.
How the program may run
The sequence is indicative. Scivi adjusts it around flight times, age, weather, local capacity, school priorities and what can be responsibly confirmed.
Arrival and Hoi An orientation
Arrive through Da Nang, transfer to the hotel and begin with a light heritage and public-space introduction.
Hoi An: living heritage and tourism
Explore how homes, shops, streets, food and visitor activity interact. Include a practical cultural or active component.
Enter the village setting
Transfer to the confirmed host community, receive accommodation and safety briefings, visit local projects and begin a gardening, restoration, composting or community activity.
Full village sustainability day
Market task, zero-waste systems, soil and nutrient cycles, nursery or farming work, upcycling or another host-defined practical activity. Shared meals and evening reflection.
Travel to Hue and compare heritage contexts
Leave the village, travel via the Hai Van route and use Hue’s Imperial City plus a living cultural setting to broaden the comparison.
Final synthesis and departure
Complete a heritage–community–environment comparison before departure from the confirmed airport.
Students explore, take part and bring something usable back to school.
What students actually do
- Follow food or material flows from market and household use into composting, soil or reuse
- Join practical maintenance, gardening, nursery, restoration or upcycling work
- Compare tourism pressure and living heritage in Hoi An and Hue
- Identify which community adaptations are locally led and which visitor assumptions need correction
Possible student output
A community systems map or continuation note showing the issue, existing local response, student role, practical limits and one question a future cohort should investigate.
The school decides whether the output is assessed, informal or used only for reflection.

CAS, Geography and sustainability connections are available through community participation and the contrast between heritage destinations and village life.
What remains subject to confirmation
Village accommodation is simple and may use shared rooms and individual mattresses. Planting, restoration, farming and riverbank activities depend on season, weather and host priorities. The final community base and activity mix must be confirmed rather than presented as guaranteed.
